Hello lovely knitters,
Yesterday was Valentine’s Day. Hearts everywhere, and I wanted to jump on the bandwagon!
This week I’m releasing two new Kindness Cardi panels:
Hug My Heart
Love the Earth
Hug My Heart is about connection. The real, arms-wrapped-round-someone, I’ve-got-you kind of love.
Love the Earth feels just as urgent. Loving the earth isn’t a slogan. It’s action. It’s harvesting yarn from old jumpers instead of buying new. It’s making something lasting out of what might have been thrown away. It’s recognising that creativity and responsibility can sit side by side.
Love isn’t passive. It builds, repairs and protects.
And that brings me to the ducks.
I feel like ducks are everywhere in my life at the moment. In my day job I’ve just launched a fabulous giant duck sculpture trail in Amber Valley. It inspired me to get crocheting (a craft I also adore) and make a flock of these little lovelies for the kids in the village.
Since lockdown in 2020, we’ve been making tiny crochet “pocket hugs” and leaving them around the village for people to find and keep. Little reminders that someone cared enough to make something and send it out into the world. The kiddos are enthusiastic helpers and often pinch their favourite colour before they make their way out of our front door!
The best part? In the last couple of years, someone else in the village has started doing it too.
Kindness is catching.
For Easter, we’re making enough little ducks for every child at our local school. There are only thirty-something pupils, which makes it feel very achievable. A whole flock of small, handmade surprises.
I will be releasing the pattern in the week, but I need to write it out and test it first. Give me a couple of days!
That’s what this week is about. Hugging hearts. Loving the earth. Doing something tangible with your care.
Make something. Share something. Leave it brighter than you found it.
